The Community of Madrid is a doctorate in the golf elite
The Community of Madrid and, in particular, the Jarama-RACE Golf Club boast of having once again organized, and with very high marks, a top tournament. In this case, the Ladies European Tour made a stop in Madrid with the first edition of the Comunidad de Madrid Ladies Open. The success of the tournament, the great preparation of the course and the congratulations of the players lead us to think of a long and continued path for the Madrid courses in elite competition.
Madrid once again hosts top-level tournaments
Madrid golf continues to be in luck as the courses of the Community of Madrid once again host top level tournaments. After the successful men’s Spanish Open at the Club de Campo, the RACE, La Moraleja II, the Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo and the Centro Nacional over the years, the Ladies European Tour landed at the RACE for the first time, which proved to be up to the task once again.
Although this was its debut on the LET in its more than 50-year history, the RACE is not new to the professional world: it has already hosted the men’s Open de España in 1969, 1992 and 1993.
On this occasion it was the “ladies” players who hit the ball on the first tee of Javier Arana’s course and did not take long to express their most sincere congratulations for an exquisite preparation and impeccable conditions for the practice of golf. So much so that the recognition was extended to Carmelo Sanz, president of RACE, by the general director of the LET, Joao Pinto, for the excellent work of the club in the form of a commemorative plaque.
For all these reasons, elite tournaments like this one are here to stay and that is precisely what the Community of Madrid aspires to, to become strong year after year in the European golf calendar.
In this regard, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Community of Madrid, Marta Rivera, said that “the region has enormous potential for growth as a tourist destination where golf can be enjoyed”.

More than 15 countries represented in the field
And speaking of tourismMore than 15 countries were represented in the field, or, in other words, around a hundred foreign players had the opportunity to taste the gastronomy Madrid, soak up the city’s cultureThe history of Madrid is rich in history, traditions, and the extensive history that enriches the Community of Madrid. And, of course, visiting the Jarama circuit, as some professionals did the days before the competition.
From the Madrid Golf Courses Association, we send our most sincere congratulations to golf in Madrid and, on this occasion, to the Jarama-RACE Golf Club because it has proven to be amply prepared to be a regular stop for the best golf in Europe.
Here’s to many more editions!
